After winning the first six of eight races at the Music City Motorplex in the DryGDSI.com NASCAR Late Models, Mark Day had not visited victory lane in several weeks, but Day’s return to the winner’s circle on July 28 at the historic Fairgrounds track was in dominating form. Mark Day and OnTrackPhoto.com fast qualifier, Josh Weston led the field down to take the green flag for the DryGDSI.com NASCAR Late Model fifty lap feature. Day wasted no time jumping out to the lead while Weston battled with Josh Adams and Michael Driskell for second on back. By lap nine, Day had already pulled out to nearly a two second lead over the field. Steadman Marlin and David Shacklett II traded the fifth position back and forth for the entire fifty laps. The field was only slowed for one caution period on lap forty-seven when Mike Murray spun exiting turn four. Mark Montgomery and Josh Byrns barely avoided the spinning Murray. Day immediately began walking away from the field on the restart and held on to return to victory lane for the seventh time in 2007. Adams held on to take the second position followed by Driskell, Weston and Shacklett II. The T-Mobile NASCAR Super Trucks forty lap feature was filled with action as soon as the green flag flew. Daniel Victory and John Earheart lead the field to the green flag, but after leading the first lap, Victory’s truck suffered a mechanical failure and slammed into the outside wall of turn two. Victory walked away unhurt. Earheart held the lead at the restart and began to pull away from the field. OnTrackPhoto.com fast qualifier Josh Mullins, Allen Carter, Ronnie Campbell and Ricky Bolden battled bumper to bumper for second on back. Terry Hayes’s spin exiting turn two brought out the second caution of the night and closed the field back to Earheart’s rear bumper. Mullins made several attempts to take over the top spot from Earheart, but Campbell shot around Mullins on lap twenty-seven and starting working on Earheart himself. Earheart and Campbell battled door to door for the next several laps before Campbell spun down the back straight and into the wall. The entire field ran nose to tail after the restart with Earheart leading the way. Mullins made another attempt at Earheart but could not complete the pass. Earheart took his first win of 2007 followed by Mullins, Clint Crowell, Carter and Bolden. Eddie Taylor and Howard Tucker brought the NASCAR Grand National Sportsman down to take the green flag for their thirty lap feature. Taylor took over the top spot while Jeffery Belt moved into the second position. The two leaders began to pull away from the rest of the field just before a caution fell on lap eight when Larry Deal’s car suffered a flat tire and slowed to a stop in turn three. Belt jumped out to the lead on the restart, but Middle Tennessee Racing News fast qualifier Michael House took over the top position on lap twelve. House and Belt ran side by side for several laps before House pulled ahead. House held on to take his seventh win of 2007 followed by Belt, Taylor, Tucker and Sam McCord. Giles Martin and Brandon Summers got the Legend Semi Pro feature started. Martin jumped out in front right after the green flag flew. Logan Ruffin, Dylan Ames, Rob Sanders and Josh Berry were all right behind Martin trading positions lap after lap. Ames got around Martin on lap fourteen to take over the top spot just before Martin and Summers got together sending Summers spinning. Sanders and Ruffin got together afew laps later sending Ruffin around. Ames held on taking his first victory of 2007 followed by Sanders, Berry, Martin and Larry Bowser. David Moyes jumped out in front on the drop of the green flag for the Legend Pro/Master feature. Tyler Slayden got around Moyes on lap five to take over the top position and never looked back. Slayden grabbed his first win of 2007 followed by Kevin Rollins, Moyes, James Fowlkes and Tyler Cordell. Kenny Summers picked up another Master’s win. Clint Ivey led all but the last five laps of the ThunderStox feature. Kyle Ivey took over the lead on lap fifteen to capture his sixth win of the season. Clint Ivey came home second followed by Jeff Scantland, Clint Carter and Cory Jones. The Bandolero Bandits and Young Guns raced together with Davey Matthews taking the Bandits win followed by Mason Massey, Zachary McLean, Blake Jones and Sean Hosey. Scott Hensley won the Young Guns race followed by Michael Bolden, Tyler Mullins and Larua Gentry. Kenny Vetetoe made another last second pass around Bill Faulkner to take his fourth win of the season in the Hornets.
